There's Hans Hesselein, the director of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy. Every week, he leads about 50 volunteers to the canal's edges to compost and plant gardens. He also brings kids and adults down to the canal and speaks to them about the environmental problems facing the canal and New York City.Last weekend, our group had the opportunity to volunteer at the Gowanus Canal Conservancy.
